Adding FUNdamentals
The Early Learning Coalition of Orange County is proud of its Special Projects programs that provide unique services and enrichment for children and early childhood teachers.
They play an important role in enhancing the quality of early childhood education and developmental services.
The ADDing FUNdamentals Financial Literacy Program gives students hands-on opportunities to build essential money skills through playhouses designed like mini credit unions. Students practice counting currency, using cash registers, and exchanging play money for goods.
In the classroom, teachers use Junior Achievement’s JA Ourselves curriculum, which includes five 30-minute lessons focused on making choices, understanding needs versus wants, earning, saving, and giving back. Teachers reinforce these financial literacy skills throughout the year. Lessons include: This or That?, Make a Choice, Do I Need What I Want?, A Penny Earned, A Penny Saved, and A Penny Shared.
Each student also receives a backpack filled with educational resources to help parents continue teaching financial literacy at home.
The ADDing FUNdamentals Financial Literacy Program is made possible through partnerships with Addition Financial, AdventHealth for Children, Orange County Public Schools, Junior Achievement of Central Florida & the Space Coast, West Lakes Early Learning Center, Conway Learning Center, Early Education Station, and Rosen Hotels & Resorts.
